Drug abuse and addiction rates have been on the rise in the small state of Rhode Island. With a little over a million people calling the coastal state home a staggering amount of overdose related deaths can be traced back to a rise in use of the drug fentanyl. Large concentrations of these overdoses are taking place in urban areas such as Providence, Warwick, Woonsocket and South Kingston.

Rhode Island is listed as one of the top 12 states for drug problems with a large majority of adult users. Fentanyl has accounted for over half of all drug overdoses in the state. This drug, along with other prescription drug abuse, has created somewhat of a crisis in Rhode Island. More and more employers are choosing to implement workplace drug testing programs and probation drug testing is on the rise.
