Prescription drugs have been on the rise in Florida since 2017 and accounted for more drug-related deaths than cocaine and heroin combined. In some counties, including Palm Beach, nearly 200 deaths were related to narcotic drugs. The rise in use of prescriptions drugs has led to additional issues with heavier substances in Florida. Individuals between the age of 18-29 are shown to be affected most by the use of illicit drugs.

Florida was one of the first states to jump on board the drug-free workplace program. If pre-employment requires you to take a drug test we have you covered. A large portion of workers in transportation and private construction, which have a high level of work-related injuries, may be required to pass a drug test upon employment or pre-employment. No. Florida does not have any mandatory drug testing statutes or regulations but it is recommended.

Yes. Florida provides employers with the ability to voluntarily participate in a Drug-Free Workplace Program to qualify for workers’ compensation insurance premium reductions. Employers wishing to leverage these benefits must voluntarily comply with very detailed program rules.
Yes. Employers may leverage an ‘Intoxication’ defense to a Workers’ Compensation Claim, based on a positive drug test result. A positive drug test may also make an employee ineligible for unemployment compensation. Employers wishing to leverage either of these benefits must voluntarily comply with very detailed program rules.
Employers must have a policy that follows the rules defined by the Florida Department of Health. Employees and applicants must be provided notice with the list of drugs to be tested and their related street names. Construction contractors in public works projects must comply with the states Drug-Free Workplace Program.
Yes. Florida permits the medical use of marijuana for patients with limited medical conditions.  The laws do not specifically impact the workplace.

Florida Drug-Free Workplace Programs

In 1990, legislation was enacted that created the Florida Drug-Free Workplace Program. The intent was to promote drug-free workplaces in Florida, in order for employers be afforded the opportunity to maximize their levels of productivity, enhance their competitive positions in the marketplace, improve safety in the workplace and reach their desired levels of success without experiencing the costs, delays and tragedies associated with work-related accidents from drug abuse by employees.

Companies in Florida can implement a drug-free workplace program and save 5% on workers compensation insurance. This is a voluntary program and assistance is available from US Drug Test Centers. Many benefits are available to companies and employers who implement the drug-free workplace program in Florida, including:

  • Employees will become more aware of safety in the workplace and will benefit from a safer work environment, which would include fewer accidents on the job
  • After a positive drug test, an employee who loses a job may not qualify for unemployment compensation benefits
  • When refusing a drug test, an injured employee may forfeit eligibility for workers compensation benefits
  • When an employee tests positive on a post-accident drug test, the employer may not be entitled to works compensation benefits
  • Employers exhibit a decrease in absenteeism, mistakes at work, theft in the workplace and problems with supervisors
  • Employers see an increase in productivity, competitiveness and employee morale
  • 5% credit to workers compensation insurance premium

The Types of Testing we Provide

Individuals who are in need of a drug test, alcohol test, hair drug test or ETG alcohol test can call us for immediate, same day service! Our Florida drug testing centers are open daily and available for pre-employment drug testing, court ordered drug testing, probation drug testing, drug testing for divorce or custody cases as well as for personal testing.

Employers who are in need of Non-DOT random drug testing, post-accident drug testing and reasonable suspicion drug testing can easily order a test online or call to order. DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing

DOT drug and alcohol testing are also available from our drug testing clinics for any and all companies regulated by the US Department of Transportation. Random drug testing and DOT consortium drug testing are also available through US Drug Test Centers. Same day service may be available as well for DOT drug or alcohol testing, along with being enrolled in a random drug testing consortium.
